Generic Glucophage Sr

Glucophage-SR is a blood sugar-regulating medicine that is used in patients with type 2 diabetes. It is a suspended release form of Metformin, an effective first line of treatment for the management of diabetes. Glucophage-SR works as effective as the standard form of Metformin. The only difference is that, the former is required to be taken only once a day while the latter is thrice a day. Also, with a lower dosage requirement, Glucophage-SR has been proven to impose milder gastrointestinal side effects than Metformin. Diabetic patients are usually advised to switch from Metformin to Glucophage-SR if they are found to be intolerant of the generic drug due to the severity of side effects.

A Glucophage-SR treatment is used along with balanced diet and regular exercise to control high blood sugar. It is sometimes used alone or in combination with other drugs, as per the doctor’s instructions.

Glucophage-SR is available in tablet form that is administered orally. Usually, diabetic patients are prescribed with the minimum dose of a 500mg tablet a day at the onset of treatment. Slowly, the dosage is increased depending on how the patient’s body is reacting to it until the maximum dose of 2000mg daily is reached.

Glucophage-SR is taken with meals as it may upset the stomach. As with any medicine treatments, it is important that you take Glucophage-SR at the same time each day to ensure that the proper intervals are observed and that you prevent missing a dose.

Taking Glucophage-SR induce several body reactions, good and bad. Under the above mentioned conditions, you may be prescribed an adjusted dose of Glucophage-SR or a different drug altogether.

Glucophage-SR may also interact with other medicines. That is why you must tell your doctor about prescription and non-prescription drugs that you are currently taking including your vitamins and herbal supplements. Glucophage-SR has a certain contrast with medicines given prior to medical tests including X-ray, MRI, and CT Scan among others.

Illegal drugs, cigarettes, and alcoholic drinks may also interact with the use of Glucophage-SR. You must tell your doctor if you use or have used any of those frequently.

Like other medicine treatments, Glucophage-SR has side effects of its own. Mild ones like diarrhea, heartburn, headache, and nausea do not usually require much attention unless they become severe or persistent. Serious side effects like fainting, breathing difficulties, low blood sugar, muscle pain, and weakness, on the other hand, must be carefully watched for. Rush to the doctor immediately at the onset of persistent and serious side effects.
