Generic Avapro

Avapro is most commonly used to treat high blood pressure, and can also be used in the treatment of kidney diseases, especially in patients with diabetes. Avapro can be generically prescribed as irbesartan. Avapro is considered an angiotensin II receptor blocker.

Avapro has been proven to cause significant fetal damage in unborn children who are in the second trimester or beyond. This medication should not be prescribed to women who are pregnant. Avapro has been proven to pass into the mother’s breast milk and may cause harm to a nursing baby. This medication should be avoided in women who are nursing. Patients under 6 years of age are not approved for the use of Avapro, and the prescribing physician should discuss whether the benefits outweigh the risks before prescribing this medication to children under the age of 18.

Avapro is not appropriate for all patients, and should not be prescribed without a thorough medical assessment and a current medication list. Patients with a medical history which includes allergies, kidney problems, heart condition, heart disease, heart attack, diabetes, or dehydration may not be able to take this medication while others may require careful monitoring while undergoing drug therapy with Avapro, depending on the condition and the severity of the condition.

Patients should never take a double dose of this medication in the event of a missed dose. Missed doses can be taken when remembered unless it is nearing time for the next regularly scheduled dose, in which case the missed dose of Avapro should be skipped. Patients should never attempt to make up the dose by taking doses too closely together or by taking a double dose as this may result in an overdose. An overdose is likely to present with symptoms which include dizziness, fainting, irregular heart rate, hoarseness, swelling of the hands, face, or other areas of the body, difficulty breathing, or other unrecorded symptoms. An overdose requires immediate medical attention and the patient should be taken to the nearest emergency room.

Avapro may result in side effects, some of which may be mildly bothersome while others may be severe and require immediate medical attention. Allergic reactions are considered serious side effects. An allergic reaction to Avapro may result in facial swelling, swelling of the lips, mouth, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing, hives, and other complications. Serious side effects may include symptoms such as symptoms of the flu, muscle pain, jaundice, irregular or elevated heart rate, jaundice, fainting, weakness, dizziness, hoarseness, difficulty swallowing, difficulty breathing, swelling of the hands, face, lips, eyes, throat, or tongue, or any other symptom that feels like a medical emergency.

More common side effects associated with Avapro are not likely to require any type of medical attention, although all side effects should be reported to the prescribing physician. This may include symptoms such as nausea, upset stomach, mild vomiting, diarrhea, general fatigue, and mild sleepiness. Often reducing the dosage of Avapro can reduce the side effects, if possible to reduce the dose without losing the effectiveness of Avapro.

There are medications that may negatively interact with Avapro, and this medication should never be prescribed without a medical assessment and an accurate drug list. Medications known to interact with Avapro include potassium sparing diuretics. Potassium levels in the blood are likely to become dangerously high when these two medications are taken at the same time.

Medications should never be shared and should always be kept out of the reach of children. Medication that has expired should be promptly discarded. Tests to check kidney function and blood pressure monitoring are necessary for almost all patients while undergoing drug therapy with Avapro.
