Sporanox may make certain health conditions worse and should not be prescribed indiscriminately. Patients with a medical history which includes heart disease, congestive heart failure, and coronary artery disease, or cystic fibrosis with a low white blood cell count, as well as patients with additional infections such as a bacterial infection. Patients with liver disease can not take Sporanox.
The American Food and Drug Administration does not recommend prescribing Sporanox to patients who are pregnant, nursing, or who are likely to become pregnant. Side effects associated with Sporanox oral solution include chest pain, cough, back pain, blood in the urine, difficulty swallowing, dehydration, difficulty breathing, weight loss, hemorrhoids, insomnia, pneumonia, inflammation of the mouth, hot flashes, vision problems, speech problems, shivering, and sweating.
Patients should be warned about the dangers of mixing medication without proper medical supervision. Alternatively, Sporanox should not be prescribed without a thorough medical history which includes a current list of medication and supplements. Medications that are known to cause serious and hazardous interactions include antacids, Xanax, Lipitor, BuSpar, blood thinners, calcium channel blockers, caffeine agents, busulfan, carbamazepine, cilostazol, clarithromycin, cyclosporine, diazepam, disopyramide, dofetilide, digoxin, docetaxel, eletriptan, erythromycin, indinavir, isoniazid, levacetylmethadol, lovastatin, methylprednisolone, midazolam, nevirapine, oral diabetes medications, phenobarbitol, phenytoin, pimozide, quinidine, rifabutin, rifampin, ritonavir, saquinavir, simvastatin, sirolimus, tacrolimus, triazolam, trimetrexate, and vinblastine.
Sporanox should be taken as it has been prescribed by the physician. In the event of a missed dose, the dose should be taken when remembered unless it is nearing time for the next scheduled dose. Patients should not double up on medication to make up for a missed dose and patients should never alter their own dosage to see faster results. An overdose may occur if taken improperly. In the even of an overdose the patient will require emergency medical care and may experience symptoms such as seizures, hallucinations, changes in behavior and a slow rate of breathing.
