Generic Glucovance

Glucovance is a combination drug of Glyburide and Metformin. It is prescribed as a management therapy for patients with type 2 diabetes. For the most part, Glucovance is used for patients who do not have daily insulin injections. This medicine therapy controls high blood sugar levels in adult diabetics. It is prescribed along with proper diet and regular exercise to effectively reduce the health risks that diabetes brings about.

Glucovance comes in tablet form. Initially, a low dose of 250mg once or twice a day is prescribed. Dosages may be increased according to your body’s reactions to the drug. If the initial treatment cannot control blood sugar levels effectively, your doctor may adjust your dose. The 500mg tablet of Glucovance must not be used if you are just starting with the treatment. A strong initial dose increases the risk of hypoglycemia or low blood sugar levels.

Glucovance is a maintenance drug that must be taken regularly unless the doctor advises you otherwise.

It is importantto note that your Glucovance dosage may be altered every once in a while depending on the results of your periodical lab tests. To measure the effectiveness of Glucovance, you will be required to have regular blood and kidney function tests.

Patients under Glucovance treatment must avoid taking alcoholic drinks. Alcohol lowers blood sugar levels, thus increases the risk for lactic acidosis.

Before taking Glucovance, it is important that you subject yourself for a check-up. The doctor must assess your need for the drug as well as your dangers with it. Discuss your medical history including any allergies and other health conditions apart from diabetes.

Glucovance must be used with care in patients with heart problems, liver disease, and kidney disorders. Its use in pregnant and lactating women must also be closely supervised as it may pose certain risks to both the unborn and nursing babies. Glucovance must also be administered with care in older adults who have higher risks of becoming inflicted with lactic acidosis.

Glucovance causes certain side effects that may present discomfort. The most common ones include symptoms of coughs and cold, headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, and diarrhea. Those symptoms may disappear after a few days of regularly taking the drug. If your symptoms persist or worsen, call your doctor immediately.
