Generic Endep

Endep is a medicine used to treat patients with depression. The generic name of this drug is amitriptyline which belongs to the category of drugs which is called as tricyclic antidepressants or TCA. Endep works its way in balancing the chemicals in the human brain which is the amines. Amines are responsible for the change of mood in a person. This drug can be used for other purposes as prescribed by a doctor.

The dosage for Endep depends on the condition of the patient. Only the doctors can decide on how much the dosage should be given to a patient. Usually a low dose of Endep is given at a certain period and will gradually increase depending on the tolerance and improvement of the patient.

Initial dosage usually starts at 75 milligrams up to 159 milligrams a day which is divided in smaller doses. For confined patients in hospitals, doctors usually administer 100 to 200 milligrams a day.

Elderly patients are usually provided with low dosage since they are not capable of the tolerance because of their age. Doctors usually reduce the dosage as the patient improves. Constant monitoring of the patient’s condition is required so as to determine if the dosage should be increased or decreased.

Before considering treatment with Endep, it is advised to visit a medical specialist in order to determine if there are any complications which might result in using the medicine. When you consult your doctor, it is ideal to inform at once if you have any allergies with medicines and have experienced a heart attack lately. Also inform your physician if you are pregnant because this drug can cause harm to your baby.

Your doctor must also be informed if you have other medical disorders such as heart problems, schizophrenia, urinary problems, diabetes and manic-depression. Endep is not recommended for use for patients below 18 years of age unless prescribed by doctors.

It is important to take note to avoid taking the medicine more than what is required because it will cause serious health disorder and can even lead the patient being in a state of coma.

Side effects can be experienced as a result of medication with Endep. Some of the common side effects include headache, sudden weight gain, dizziness, craving for food or sweets, drowsiness and weakness.

Other side effects may cause vomiting, heartburn, diarrhea and difficulty in sleeping. Patients undergoing Endep medication may also experience major side effects like sudden change of behavior, impulsive, physically and mentally hyperactive, hostile, anxiety.

It can also cause the feeling of committing suicide. This is commonly experienced for patients below 24 years of age during early part of medication. That is why it is also necessary for family members or nurses of these patients to be attentive on any changes in behavior.
